Yay! Finally I was able to visit this place. I spent my Monday morning with my siblings at this earthy hang out spot “The Grounds”. It’s a very innovative cafe with an organic garden. I’ve heard there can be long queues of people during lunchtime so we figured coming in at 8 for breakfast. Their menu was quite varied and interesting. We ordered four different dishes: The Grounds breakfast, Turkish poached eggs, Quinoa cake and blueberry pancake.
The waiting time, thankfully, wasn’t too long. The presentation of the food and servings were great. I ordered Turkish poached eggs with baked beans. I found the combination kind of strange. But the bread that they served it with was really nice. My brother enjoyed the Quinoa cake, while my sister liked their signature breakfast.
We had the blueberry pancake for dessert. It was really moist and delicious. It was served with toasted walnuts, lemon-flavoured butter and Canadian maple syrup.
After having breakfast, we hung out and explored the place. The first thing that caught my attention was the farm. It was small with goats and a massive pig named Kevin Bacon.
There was a huge space with elegant, curved chairs and beautiful interiors. It had a retro vintagey feel, which I loved.
There was a wishing fountain at the center, next to the organic garden and farm. My sister and I tossed a coin and made a wish. It reminded me of our Europe trip back in 2000, at the “Trevi” fountain in Italy.
There were clotheslines with hanging denim, a flower shop and an ATM machine inside a telephone booth, which I found really cute.
Outside the cafe, there was an old truck with its name on it. I found it really innovative and very welcoming for visitors. My siblings and I had a great time. I plan to bring our parents next time to try their famous brunch and check out the market stalls during the weekends.
There was nothing quite like it. 🙂
